How to Apply for a Danish Student Visa

Learn about the several types of student visas Denmark accepts from international students before applying for a student permit. The application procedure and required paperwork for a student visa in Denmark vary greatly depending on the applicant’s place of origin and the intended length of stay. Those with valid passports from the Nordic/EU/EEA nations can enter Denmark with just that, whereas those from outside the EU/EEA would need additional paperwork. Students from outside the European Union/European Economic Area have two options for student visas:

Method for Getting a Visa

The Danish Immigration Service has exempted holders of diplomatic or service passports from the need that Indian students studying in the country for fewer than 90 days get a tourist visa. But I can’t work or enroll in a Danish school for more than three months since my visa doesn’t allow it. Visit the Danish embassy in your home country to apply for a tourist visa if you don’t hold a diplomatic or service passport.

Obtaining a Homeowner's License

Full-time degree or diploma programs in Denmark often last longer than three months, therefore you’ll need a residency visa if any of the following apply to you:

  • You need to be admitted to a Danish university.
  • Either complete a course of study or participate in the program as a guest or exchange student.
  • You can also enroll in a foundational course that will pave the way for your continued studies at a university.

The following are also necessary in order to qualify for a residence visa to study in denmark

  • Certificate of acceptance from the college or university
  • IELTS, TOEFL, or Cambridge ESOL (CAE) scores demonstrating proficiency in the English language; if your desired program is taught in Danish, German, or another language, you must demonstrate fluency in that language.
  • As long as you have an acceptance letter from the university you wish to attend, the preparatory program you wish to enroll in must not exceed one academic year, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science must confirm that attendance at the preparatory program is a necessary condition for enrolling in the prospective higher education program.
  • Your preferred school and program should both fall under the category of higher education, i.e. must require candidates to have finished high school, and be accredited by a state authority or the Danish Evaluation Authority (EVA).
    Evidence of financial stability
  • Students under the age of 18 who wish to enroll in a Danish university must provide a birth certificate, a signed declaration of consent from a parent or legal guardian, and evidence that they have been issued a residence and study permit by the university.
